Trauma Responsive Care: Safe, connected, and in control

Trauma Responsive Care: Safe, connected, and in control

Trauma can affect every aspect of an individual’s life. Many in the developmental disabilities and mental illness workforce have had trauma-informed care training. However, being informed isn’t enough. Helping professionals may not know how to respond effectively to trauma. This Trauma Responsive Care training will cover the causes of trauma and the factors that leave people with I/DD more vulnerable to it. The training will go over Big T and little t traumas and how people with I/DD may experience both more often than the general population. Trauma Responsive Care and examples of how to apply it and how to use TRC as a universal precaution will also be covered. Participants will walk with a practical exercise for self-grounding that can be used in stressful situations.
